Rogaine - Get Lost (or not) with Nelson Riding Club - July 14 - Rough Island Equestrian Park
Rogaine - it's a bit like Orienteering but you can collect/visit the Control Points in any order.
This equestrian sport is growing in popularity, so come along and learn all about it.
NRC is intending to run an Equestrian Rogaine competition later in the year, so this is a great opportunity to learn all about it.
In Rogaine you navigate using a map, your team (2-4 riders) on horseback collect “controls”. Go at your own pace, be it fast or slow with the goal of collecting as many “controls” as you can in the set time limit. You chose the pace, you chose the time limit, you chose your team.
Come along to the rally with or without your equine. And if you've always wanted to do the Spring Challenge (Rogaine on foot) then the information provided will assist you with too.
The day will start at 10am with an information session. You'll learn about Rogaine, map reading, rules, and get some strategy tips.
Then it's time to saddle up and in teams, you'll have a chance to give it a go within the Rough Island Equestrian Park.

Join NRC members for a ride to the sky at Gibbs Valley, Wakefield.
From the stable area we follow farm tracks along flats and up the hills. The summit of the farm provides stunning 360-degree views, from the sea to the alps.
This is strictly a member only event. Registration is required. Tracks are 90% grass covered and suitable for bare foot.

Circle too big, circle not round, movement late, movement early, no free walk shown... eek what does it all mean!?
Come along to learn how to ride a 20m circle and other tips and tricks to ensure you get maximum marks in your dressage tests. Dressage movements, done well, are also great training aids for all horses to increase their balance and make it easier for them to carry us!
Details to follow. This is an unmounted event with demonstration horses so you can still attend if your unicorn is turned out for winter.

Have a Go - CTR and Trail riding - August / September
Those trail riders sure get to see some great parts of the motu.
If you've always wondered about trail riding, then this is the session for you. Practice riding a distance at a set speed, there's a practical section on timing your horse's speed at each pace. Also learn how to take your horses' heart rate, what's normal and what's fit for your equine.
