Kainui South Forest Trail - update November 2025
The Club has been working with One Forty One (OfO) to establish an area for exclusive access by horse riders. Access will be located off Quail Valley Road, with the block running between Quail Valley Road and Wai-iti Valley Road shown on the map below.
Weather events in June and July 2025 caused massive damage to multiple sections of forestry in the Nelson Tasman District. Flooding and wind in the Kainui Forest area has destroyed a number of tracks, downed trees, and made the area unsafe to access for horse riders. OfO are working through the large amount of windthrow in their forests caused by the storm and this means that the establishment of the Kainui South Forest Trail is delayed but hopefully will be achieved later in 2026.
Once the tracks are repaired and the area made safe the trail will be opened to horse riders. The Riding Club has agreed to under-write the liability insurance and maintain an access database on behalf of OfO. It is likely that a small membership fee will be charged, with the funds going towards the insurance costs, and installing signage and track indicators.
OfO and the Nelson Tasman Riding Club remain committed to establishing and maintaining horse riding access to forests in the district and will keep in regular contact regarding updates to this area and other opportunities.
